Turning Blue Jigsaw Green

What are we doing to be an environmentally friendly business.

With hundreds of orders being sent out weekly, large stock shipments coming in regularly and the creation of trade waste during our production and converting activity, having manageable, scalable systems in place to deal with our waste is essential to becoming a responsible, ennvironmentally aware business. In this blog we will highlight some of the steps we have taken to turn Blue Jigsaw Green!

We break our waste down into different waste types, just as you would with your recycling bins at home. We use different techniques for different areas of waste.

Stock (goods -in) packaging is either PVC or cardboard. Waste cardboard is re used in our warehouses for packaging as much as possible; unuseable waste cardboard is collected from our site once every two weeks by a licensed recycling company. The same approach is taken to soft clear PVC, reused for packaging or collected by a licensed recyling company.

Trade waste (end of fabric rolls, off cuts, cutting waste from circles and ovals etc) - this is where we get creative. We have multiple commercial relationships with trade customers that absolutely adore our trade waste. Paper, Oilcloth, Table Protectors, Acrylic Coated fabrics - pretty much everything gets re purposed and turned into textile based items for soft furnishings and general household goods. Even a 10cm wide strip of waste fabric is repurposed into finished goods such as a pencil case. It is hugely rewarding to understand that a good percentage (but not all of it yet) of our trade waste drives a cottage indusrty that has a fantastic environmentally friendly story to tell.
